What's our story?

akg-images was founded in November 1945 by German art collector and journalist Wilfried Göpel under the name “Archiv für Kunst und Geschichte” – Archive for Art and History. Today our archive comprises well over ten million images, which are licensed for editorial and non-editorial projects around the world from our three offices in London, Berlin and Paris. akg-images remains a family-run business to this day.
