Marcel Breuer (1902 - 1981)
21st May 2017 - 125th Birthday.
Marcel Lajos Breuer (21 May 1902 – 1 July 1981), Hungarian-born modernist, architect, and furniture designer.
Breuer was one of the first and youngest students at the Bauhaus Weimar. He was recognized by Gropius as a significant talent and was quickly put at the head of the carpentry shop. Later he extended the sculptural vocabulary he had developed at the Bauhaus into a personal architecture that made him one of the world's most popular architects at the peak of 20th Century design.
After the Nazis came to power in Germany, Breuer, because of his Jewish ancestry, relocated to London in 1936 and then in 1937 emigrated to the US.
