Indira Gandhi (1917 - 1984)
31 October 2034 - 50 years since her death
Indira Gandhi, daughter of the first Prime Minister of independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru, ruled the Indian state for almost 16 years and was one of the few women who managed to succeed in the male domain of politics.
The Indian prime minister was assassinated on 31 October 1984 by two of her Sikh bodyguards.
Despite the incipient unrest, Gandhi's son Rajiv Ghandhi (1944 - 1991) became her successor and prevented further chaos.
At the same time, the takeover of power within the 'Nehru-Gandhi dynasty' was successful.
