László Moholy-Nagy (1895 - 1946)

The painter, photographer, typographer and stage designer Lászlò Moholy-Nagy was born on 20 July 1895 in Bácsborsód/ Hungary. He died in Chicago in 1946.

In 1923, Moholy-Nagy came to Weimar as a master of form of the metal workshop as well as the teacher of the "Vorkurs" at the Bauhaus. He continued his work in Dessau until he left the Bauhaus in 1928. He was also assistant to Walter Gropius and since 1924, together him Gropius, editor of the Bauhaus books.

After Hitler came to power, Moholy-Nagy was disbarred from working in Germany. He had to emigrate in 1934 to the United States, with stops in Amsterdam and England (1935-1937). In Chicago he became the head of
'New Bauhaus - American School of Design' and founded in 1939 the 'School of Design' as a successor institution.
