Alfred Bauer
Alfred Bauer, director of the Berlin Film Festival from 1951 to 1976, is said to be a high-ranking official in the “Reichsfilmintendanz” created by the National Socialists, after “Die Zeit”. According to documents in the Federal Archives and the Berlin State Archives, Bauer monitored the use of actors, directors, etc. after 1942 and was involved in the decision of who was allowed in front of or behind the camera and who had to go to the front.
The Berlinale has decided to suspend the award of the “Silver Bear – Alfred Bauer Prize”.
