Michael Douglas, born on September 25, 1944 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, is the eldest son of Kirk Douglas and Diana Dill.
As a multiple winner of the Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy Award he is considered one of Hollywood’s leading character actors.
He plays his first leading role in 1969 in the war drama “Hail, Hero!". He becomes internationally known in the role of Steve Heller in the crime series “The Streets of San Francisco (1972–1977)”. He received his first Oscar in 1975 as a producer of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. Successful films followed, including The China Syndrome (1979), Romancing the Stone (1984), and The Jewel of the Nile (1985). He is the main actor and producer in all three films. Other successful films are “Wall Street”, “Fatal Attraction”, “The War of the Roses” and “Basic Instict”. In the 1990s, Michael Douglas manages to change his image away from light comedies to controversial films such as “Falling Down (1993)” or “The Game (1997)”.
In the film “It Runs in the Family” for the first time he plays together with his father Kirk Douglas and his son Cameron Douglas. For the role of Liberace in the TV movie “Behind the Candelabra” he receives an Emmy.
In his first marriage he was married to Diandra Luker, in 2002 he married the British actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.
