Niki de Saint Phalle / painter, sculptor, France
Niki de Saint Phalle was born on 29.10.1930 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. She started painting in 1953 In the following years she worked as an action artist. She becomes famous worldwide with her “Nanas”, female figures with distinctly lush and round shapes. In 1968 for the first time she participates in an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Numerous other exhibitions follow in Munich, Paris, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Rome. She is one of the founding organizers of the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn in 1992. Also famous is her “Garden of the Tarot” in Tuscany.
Died on 21.05.2002 in San Diego.
