Kurt Weill (1900 - 1950)
The composer Kurt Weill is often named in connection with Bertolt Brecht and the "The Threepenny Opera", a worldwide success.
In fact, the collaboration between the two already ended around 1930 after a few pieces.

Due to his Jewish ancestry he was increasingly exposed to hostility after the National Socialists seized power and emigrated to France in 1933, later to the United States.
In the 1940s he was a successful musical composer on New York's Broadway.

His wife Lotte Lenya, singer and actress, was one of the best known interpreters of her husband's songs.

Kurt Weill's work includes operas, operettas, music for ballet and drama, musicals, orchestral works, chamber music, songs and chansons.
