Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (5th March 1696 – 27th March 1770), also known as Gianbattista or Giambattista Tiepolo, was an Italian painter and printmaker from the Republic of Venice.

He was a prolific artist and worked in Italy, Germany and Spain. He became famous not only for his paintings, but also for his frescoes, particularly his magnificent ceiling frescoes at the Würzburg Residence in Bavaria, Germany.
