Paul Almasy
Born in Budapest in 1906, Paul Almasy covered a wide range of world events in his career as a leading photojournalist. After a spell with the Swiss press he progressed to work predominantly for the UN.

Some of his finest work includes atmospheric images of Paris in the 1950s and 1960s and a visual record of its existentialist and art worlds.

Having travelled the world for ten months out of twelve for more than thirty years, Almasy amassed a collection of 120,000 black and white negatives from his many journeys. An exhibition devoted to him in the 1980s summed up his oeuvre: "Except Mongolia" - it was the only country in the world he had never had the opportunity to visit.
