Months of the Year: October
Continuing with our series on the twelve months of the year, we celebrate October, the season of cool autumn days and fallen leaves and Apple Day!

At this time of year we acknowledge UK Black History Month and Halloween. Historical events this month include the Battle of Trafalgar and the births of Henry III, Sir Christopher Wren and Dylan Thomas. Birthstones for the tenth month of the year are the stunning opal and tourmaline whilst its birth flower is the calendula, varying in colour from pale yellow to a deep orange.

Take a look at this selection of images from our archive to conjure the feeling of October.
