Months of the Year: January
Our series on the twelve months of the year takes us to January, traditionally the month of New Year Resolutions and winter sports.

January was named after the Roman god, Janus, the god of beginnings and endings. He is usually depicted as being two-faced since he looks to the future and to the past.

Did you know that the Saxon name for January was ‘wolf month’ as it was the time of year when wolves were unable to find food and this drove them into the villages?

Enjoy this selection of images celebrating this month.
