Blockade: Tony Vaccaro in Berlin

As a private in the 83rd Infantry Division,
akg-images' photographer Tony Vaccaro fought through the Second World War
and, following the end of fighting in 1945, Vaccaro stayed on in Germany,
documenting the rebuilding of a country battered by Nazism.

To mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Berlin Blockade,
which Vaccaro photographed extensively,
we present once more a selection of material illustrating the period,
a time of political intensity and immense hope after the horrors of World War Two.
