Vincenzo Pirozzi was born in Rome in 1938, and since graduating at Cinecittà in 1958 has specialised in documenting and recording his native city, and its province of Lazio. Like Rome itself, his collection is rich in material from all periods, from prehistory and the civilisation of the Etruscans to a substantial body of work on Roman art, early Christianity and its catacombs, to the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Baroque and 16th century, to exhibitions in Rome by foreign artists and museums. His book commissions include titles on Michelangelo’s Sculpture, St. Francis of Assisi, Fra Angelico at San Marco, Bernini between Siena and Rome, and the Abbey of Montecassino. His latest book is on recent mosaics by contemporary artists for the Underground and Subways of Rome.
