Born in Paris in 1928, Daniel Frasnay trained with the portrait photographer Roger Carlet and worked with the Lipnitzki brothers before embarking on a long and highly successful career as a photographer of the Paris revue, ballet and theatre scene in the early 1950s. He turned freelance in 1953, working as a photojournalist for a number of well-known agencies and magazines worldwide. Amongst his highly acclaimed book publications are 'Paris la Nuit' (1956) - an early summary of the 'photographe du spectacle' which sold 1.5 million copies worldwide. Another book, 'Artist's World' (1969), is the result of his friendships with many of the leading artists of the 20th century including Bacon, Braque, Calder, Chagall, Dali, Sonia Delaunay, de Kooning, Magritte, Miro, Moore and Giacometti. |
